Dead in France follows
Charles to Cannes, where he attempts to retire from the hitman business for
good. Unfortunately, some of his colleagues follow. Filming in black and white
seemed like a random choice, and the self-professed black comedy was heavy on
explicit violence and extremely light on successful jokes. One scene
incorporated various creative uses of ballpoint pens, and elicited a pained “Mon
Dieu” from the woman behind me. The hodge podge of characters didn’t work as a
cohesive group, leaving those who stuck out the whole movie in a general state
of confusion and disgust.
